We celebrated International Week in our school from 26th – 28th February 2024.
During this week, we celebrated the fact that we have a diverse range of cultures and languages in our school. Children from over 30 countries speak over 40 different languages.
During this week, we did a wide range of activities including table quizzes, crosswords and wordsearches, colouring in flags from other countries, I-Pad activities and most importantly, learning how to say hello in other languages.

On Wednesday 28th February, a range of pupils from many different countries treated us to a performance in the hall.  This was a variety of dance, music, poetry, prayers, songs and stories in several different languages and cultures.

This performance was greatly enjoyed by the whole school community.
We all really enjoyed International Week and will look forward to celebrating again next year!

Last day for 6th class

A Guard of Honour made up of pupils and staff was formed yesterday as we said a final farewell to our 6th class pupils as they left Scoil Naomh Fiachra for the last time.

They enjoyed a leavers’ lunch from the chip van. Slush Puppies were enjoyed by them all. Thank you to our Parents’ Association for covering the cost of the lunch.
The final assembly for 6th class was held in the hall with awards presented for sporting and academic excellence along with kindness awards.

Local athlete and mini marathon winner Nikita Burke joined us to present Athletics awards. She encouraged all pupils to aim high and work hard.

County Champions  2023

Division 1 County Champions

The Boys Gaelic Football Team are Division 1 County Champions again after a wait of 9 years since 2014. There has been a lot of heartache over the years, losing 4 finals over that period and to get over the line yesterday against Woodlands N.S was a fantastic achievement. The boys put a
tremendous effort in all year and trained with great endeavour and hoped that this day would come.
The most important part was that they had fun with their friends and learned the value of teamwork and that hard work pays off. On the day it was a team effort that prevailed and each player excelled. Ethan Buchanan produced an outstanding performance and was awarded man of the match. There is a lot of happy faces in the school and it has created a positive atmosphere with the academic year coming to a close. We are extremely proud of how our boys performed and conducted themselves
throughout the year. They are a great credit to the school.

International Day 2023

On Monday 20th June, we celebrated International Day. In our school, we are privileged to have  pupils from almost 40 countries around the world. These pupils showcased some songs, dancing, music and poetry on this day. This was just a little sample of the wonderful cultural diversity we have here, and it was greatly enjoyed by our whole school community.

Our Active week took place on the week 12-16th June. We were very lucky to have a lot of volunteers visiting our school to share their coaching expertise with us. We had coaches from Illistrin Football Club, Letterkenny Athletic Club, St Eunan’s GAA, Martin Mc Grath for Hurling, Klaudia for Yoga, Blaze Basketball, Gaelic football coaches, hurling coaches and our own residence dance teacher Ms Higgins. Every day had something different on the timetable. Thank you to everyone who contributed to such a fun-filled week!

Also, a special word of thanks to the Parents Committee who sponsored the caps.

Bhi Lá Gaelach againn sa scoil ar 15ú Márta. Bhí gach duine feistithe in éide glas, bhí ceol, damhsa, amhránaíocht, agus filíocht mar pháirt den Lá Gaelach.

Maith sibh.

Our pupils had a wonderful Lá Gaelach, classes sang, danced, played instruments and recited poetry as Gaeilge.

During the week, Seachtain na Gaeilge, older classes joined with younger classes and read Irish books together. Also many classes began to write their own Irish books, Scríobh Leabhar. Pupils also took part in a Toraíocht Taisce (treasure hunt).

Well done everyone.

East Donegal Indoor U-11 Champions

Our school’s boys U-11 team were victorious in the East Donegal finals in Glenswilly recently with a fantastic team performance over the three matches played. They had been training for a few months in anticipation of this Eastern Final, after progressing from the group stages earlier in the year. They have now progressed to the County Finals where the winners from North, South, East and West will meet. Ádh mór oraibh a bhuachaillí.

Feis Loreto Convent

Children from 1st classes up to 6th classes attended the Irish Feis organised by Transition Year Students  in Loreto Convent on Friday 24th .

The children who attended were so well behaved and very respectful. They had prepared very well for their competitions and did themselves and the school proud on the day.  Well done also to the teachers  and parents who worked very hard to prepare children to perform to such a high standard.  We are so proud of all the children who competed in singing, poetry and music competitions.

Many thanks to Mrs Louise Ferry for organising the entries,  Mr Gallagher for putting together a timetable and program of events and to Mrs Davies, Mrs McLaughlin and Mrs McGrory who accompanied the children to the event.

We had three prize winners: Bríana Mc Laughlin who won the Junior Solo instrumental,  Fiadh Davies who the Senior Solo instrumental and Kayla Martin who won 3rd in the Irish Solo Poetry in 5th Class.

Well done to everyone involved – Comhgairdeas libh go léir!

St. Brigid’s Day

Ms. Ferry’s 4th class pupils enjoyed making St. Brigid’s crosses in class.

Credit Union Schools’ Quiz

Following a round of quiz qualifiers run in 4th, 5th and 6th classes recently, we formed quiz teams to represent the school in the Letterkenny Credit Union Schools’ Quiz which took place last night in the Mount Errigal Hotel.

2 teams were entered in the under 11 category and 2 teams were entered in the under 13 category. We are really proud of all 4 teams who prepared at home and in school for the quiz. They represented the school so well and are a great credit to their school and to their families. The 4 teams are pictured below.

One of our under 11 teams won the under 11 competition beating all other schools in Letterkenny! Well done Louis, Luke, Ollie and Johan. They are pictured below receiving their prizes from Paul Hume from Letterkenny Credit Union. They now go forward to the Chapter (regional) final in March. We wish them Good Luck!

Catholic Schools Week 2023

Friendship Week

All classes spent quality time reflecting on:
Self-Care
Being a good friend and helpful qualities/considerations
Making healthy friendships
Managing Conflict
Assemblies were held for each year group and a whole school assembly on Friday with each year group and staff wearing a different colour .
Friendship was explored crosscurricularly and pupils created stunning art, poetry and music pieces.
This week coincided with the beginning of our ‘Wellbeing Way’ , a corridor being created to promote wellness and positivity.

‘A true Friend accepts who you are, but also helps you become who you should be’

Christmas Jumpers 2022

Christmas Jumper Day – Friday 25th November

Every year we choose the St Vincent de Paul charity for our Christmas fundraiser. St Vincent de Paul aims to fight poverty in every community throughout Ireland. They offer direct personal assistance to families with the help of local, community based volunteers. You can check their website here: https://www.svp.ie/home.aspx

In past years pupils and families were asked to make a food donation. This year we are asking you to make a donation which will be spent here in Letterkenny assisting families who are struggling as Christmas approaches.

The Late Late Toy Show will take place next Friday evening. To tie in with the excitement we will host our St Vincent de Paul fundraiser on that day- Friday 25th November. Friday will be “No Uniform Day”. Pupils may wear their own clothes to school on that day. If they have one, they may wear a Christmas jumper. They may wear something red, a traditional Christmas colour. They may wear their favourite football jersey. They are asked to bring their donation to school on Friday and all money collected will be donated to the St Vincent de Paul here in Letterkenny and will then make its way to families in need here in our community.

We will also hold an Art Competition in the school on Friday. All pupils will be asked to design a Christmas Jumper. There will be prize winners in each of our 21 classes.

This will be our last fundraiser prior to the Christmas Holidays.
