Letterkenny Dyslexia Association Fundraiser.

A big thank you to everyone who supported our Dress Up Day Fundraiser for the Letterkenny Branch of the Dyslexia Association of Ireland. Our pupils, parents and staff raised €750. The pupils looked fantastic in their costumes.

Something spooky going on in Scoil Naomh Fiachra!!

Hallowe’en Dress Up Day- Thursday 25th October 

To celebrate Hallowe’en pupils may wear fancy dress to school on Thursday 25th October. Any pupil who does not wish to wear a Hallowe’en costume can dress up in any costume or treat the day as a No Uniform day and wear their own clothes.

Pupils are asked to bring €2 to school on the day to support the Letterkenny Branch of the Dyslexia Association of Ireland. Money raised will be used locally to provide additional supports for pupils with dyslexia. Your support is greatly appreciated.

School information meeting: Mental Health for all.

The school recently held an information meeting Mental Health for all. Sr. Helen spoke about the importance of looking after our own mental health and the mental health of our children.  The meeting was a huge success and very well attended by both school staff and parents.

Letterkenny Shopping Centre Recycling competition.

Letterkenny Shopping Centre are running a competition for local school children and the winning child will win an iPad for themselves and €1,000 for their school.

The competition is part of a recycling awareness campaign. Letterkenny Shopping Centre will have a large cube in the centre from October 8th – October 26th and they are asking our local children to come to the centre, complete a simple entry form, put it in an empty plastic bottle and drop the bottle into the cube. A winning ‘bottle’ will be selected on October 25th and the lucky winner will win an iPad for themselves and €1,000 for their school.

The Shopping Centre will recycle all the bottles at the end of the campaign.

 

Dental nurse visit

We were delighted to welcome Phil, a dental nurse, to the school on 8th October 2018. Phil visited several classrooms and gave great advice to our pupils about good dental hygiene. She also reminded the pupils about the importance of a healthy diet and the effect food and drink can have on our teeth. Pictured are some of our Junior Infants and Nurse Phil.

 

Bag to School

Our Parents’ Association has organised a BAG TO SCHOOL collection. Good quality, clean items can be bagged and dropped into the school on Friday, 19th October from 2.00pm to 7.00pm. You can use any bag for your donated items. Please support this environmentally friendly initiative and help raise funds for our school.

 

Parent-Teacher Meetings

We look forward to your help and co-operation throughout the year ahead. Parent-Teacher meetings will be held on Wednesday 24th October from 3.00pm to 8.00p.m. Each parent will receive a time to meet with the relevant teacher/s two weeks prior to the 24th October. At this meeting your child’s teacher/s will let you know how your child is progressing in his/her class. However, if at any stage there is anything you wish to discuss with myself, or any of the teachers, or if you have any concerns regarding your child’s progress in school please do not hesitate to contact the school secretary to arrange an appointment.

 

School Information Evening

Our annual school information evening will take place on Tuesday 9th October at 7.00pm. A member of the Parents’ Association, a member of the Board of Management and the Principal Teacher will briefly address the meeting. Information about the school will be outlined.

Our Parents’ Association Committee has invited Sr Helen Kelly as a Guest Speaker to address parents at this meeting. Her seminar will cover “Mental Health for All”. Sr Helen has years of experience dealing with Mental Health and in dealing with children and parents. Her presentation will be of great benefit to all parents and guardians.

 

Ms. Dillon’s 1st Class Maths Stations

Every Friday, the class do maths stations. There are 5 different activities and the children move around the classroom from station to station. The children play games such as Addition Snakes and Ladders, 4 in a Row, Forwards and Backwards, Add on Tiles and Racing Cars. They also play fun games on iPads and the interactive whiteboard. Everyone has great fun playing the games while practising various maths skills.
