Irish Aid Our World Project – Mary’s Meals
As part of our work on the Irish Aid Our World project, third class are assisting the local branch of Mary’s Meals with their ‘backpack’ project. As part of this project, children are asked to bring in an old school bag, pencil case, stationery etc. (please see poster below). These items will be brought by Mary’s Meals volunteers to children in Malawi to help and develop their school life. We would be grateful if all items could be brought in to school after the Easter holidays on Monday 9th, Tuesday 10th and Wednesday 11th April. Children can bring in one item or various items from the list.

Copybooks, Backpack, Crayons, Eraser, Small ball, Pencils, Sharpener, Toothbrush, Pens, Pencil case, Towel, Ruler, Spoon, Soap, Flip flops/sandals and toothpaste.

Parenting Course
We have received the following information from Parent Hub. If you are interested please contact Parent Hub at the number provided below.
Parents Plus – Do you need help encouraging your child to do their homework and establish routines? Do you find parenting challenging? Are you stressed-out? Then why not come along to the Parents Plus Children’s Programme? This 7 week workshop, (one 2 hr session/week) shows parents how to communicate positively with children, illustrating ways to encourage good social skills as well as well-researched methods to tackle behavioural problems. This workshop is open to parents, carers, guardians and grandparents!
When: 7.30-9.30, Mon. 16 April.

Important Calendar Dates for March 2018
Wednesday 21st March – Lá Ghaelach
Thursday 22nd March – Pupils from 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th classes will travel to the Cathedral by bus for Confession.
Friday 23rd March – School will close for Easter Holidays at 11.50am for Junior and Senior Infants and 12.30pm for all other pupils. School reopens on Monday, 9th April.

World Meeting of Families 2018
This is our school poster for World Meeting of Families 2018. We had a busy week with the Sacrament of Reconciliation in the Cathedral of Saint Eunan and Columba. We had our families with us, our teachers and all the priests of the parish of Conwal and Leck. Father K Gillespie Our Chairman and Chaplin was joined by Father P Kemmy and Father Kelly , the administrator of the Parish.
Engineers Week 2018
Mr. Mac Mathúna’s 5th class took part in Engineers Week 2018.
The children learned about the various types of Engineering and spoke with an Engineer in class. They worked as part of a design team to build hovercrafts. They tested the hovercrafts then implemented design changes to improve their hovercrafts. Everyone had a great time and learned about the broad range of Engineering disciplines.
Captain CU visits the School
“Captain CU” visited illistrin school to congratulate our u-11 Quiz Team on their great success in the Regional Final of the Credit Union Schools’ Quiz. Captain CU had an Easter Egg for each of our team members and wished them well in the National Final on 8th April in Dublin.
