Lá Fhéile Bhríde

February 1st marked the first day of spring, known as Lá Fhéile Bhríde, Saint Brigid’s Feast Day. Mr C. Gallagher’s 5th class and Ms McClafferty’s 1st class celebrated St Brigids day by inviting their grandparents in to make St. Brigid’s day crosses.  Fr. Gillespie then blessed the crosses. There was a lovely atmosphere in the hall. Well done to everybody involved.

Service of Light

The Ceremony of Light was celebrated on Thursday 25th January in the school. The key part of the service was when the parents hand the lighted Baptism candle to their child as an acknowledgement that their child is now ready to be a responsible Christian. It was a very special evening for all the students, parents and teachers involved.  They now look forward to their Sacrament of Confirmation on Thursday 22nd of February 2018.

 

Letterkenny Credit Union Quiz
Two under 11 teams and two under 13 teams participated in the Letterkenny Credit Union Schools’ Quiz which took place on the 29th January. The team members were chosen after a Quiz was held in each of our 4th, 5th and 6th classes.  Our team members practiced for the quiz during their break times and their preparation certainly paid off as one of our under 11 teams won the under 11 competition. They are pictured below with their plaque which is now on display in our trophy cabinet. They each won €60 and are now deciding whether to spend their winnings or save with Letterkenny Credit Union! In early March our winning team will complete in the county final of this competition. Good luck to all of them. One of our under 13 teams was narrowly beaten into 4th place, just missing out on a “top 3” position. Well done to our 4 teams and a big thank you to their parents for all the quiz practice at home.
Patients Comfort Fund
Well done to all staff who supported a Christmas Fundraiser for the Patients’ Comfort Fund at Ard Greine, Stranorlar. Over €600 was raised. Pictured below are staff members presenting a cheque for the proceeds of the fundraiser to Una Gallagher from Ard Greine.
Catholic Schools Week

The theme for Catholic schools week is ‘Catholic schools/Families of Faith‘. This is an opportunity for the Board of Management, parents and families to be enriched in our faith. This is part of the World meeting of families celebration 2018.

Seasonal Influenza Advice for Parents
All parents and guardians are asked to check the following link for advice from the Health Surveillance Protection Centre regarding the Seasonal Influenza Virus: http://www.hpsc.ie/a-z/respiratory/influenza/seasonalinfluenza/guidance/schools/ Please note that if your child gets sick with a flu-like illness you should keep your child at home and away from others as much as is possible to avoid spreading infection to others. If they are sick with flu they should stay home for 5 days from the onset of symptoms. Here at school teachers are revising the importance of good hand hygiene habits with the children. They are taught to wash their hands properly. When they sneeze or cough they are taught to “Catch It, Kill It, Bin It”. Please remind your children of the following good health habits to help stop the spread of germs:
  • Teach your children to cover their mouth and nose with a paper tissue when coughing or sneezing.
  • If no tissue is available they should cough or sneeze into the inside of their elbow. Be sure to set a good example by doing this yourself.
  • Teach your children to use a tissue only once and dispose of it quickly and carefully (a dustbin is fine).
  • Teach your children to wash their hands frequently with soap and water.
Your cooperation in helping to prevent the spreading of Seasonal Influenza is greatly appreciated.
Michael McGrath Charity 
Pat Mc Grath received a donation from Mr. Kilcoyne for our Non Uniform Day on the 22nd of December 2017, for his son Michael Mc Grath. Almost €500 was raised in the school and Mary Larkin also raised €500.  Thank you to everybody involved.
World Meeting of Families
The icon below is for the ‘World Meeting  of Families’ pictured in the Cathedral  following the blessing of it on the Feast day of the Holy Family.
